Twitter Feed: This option is based on the use of Twitter as a personal feed. You will use it as a feed for one of the characters in the novel. Since the posts are such minimal writing, you will be required to post 30-40 times over the course of the allotted time to complete the assignment. You are to create a NEW Twitter account for the character. You may NOT simply use your own account. The posts must entail a variety of aspects mentioned in the novel such as advertisements, news, chats from friends, etc.  You will give a three to five minute presentation of your feed, detailing yours reasons for including a few posts of your choice.

Character Evolution Timeline: Choose a character in the novel who you feels underwent drastic changes in personality, feelings, perceptions, etc. Create a timeline of events contributing to the character’s changes. Begin with the character’s state at the beginning of the novel, then cite passages from the text as evidence to the changes, and for each passage, you must write a brief explanation of why this passage is important to the evolution of the character. Your final event/passage should be the character’s state at the end of the novel. You must include seven to ten contributing events or passages, all accompanied by brief descriptions. Mr. Friberg: Final Project One: Choose a character from the novel Feed and create a “body biography,” which             is a visual and textual portrait of the character. Consider aspects of the characters       description from the novel: body type, distinguishing features, clothing, symbols, colors,     etc. Consider particular events in the character’s life, and use those as inspiration for            drawing the image of the character, but also use appropriate text, either spoken or thought            by the character. Make sure that whatever you use in your “body biography” can be           justified within the text. The “body biography” should be a balance between test and          drawing, however if your drawing skills are not as good as you would like them to be, incorporate more text into the drawing. However, be careful not to neglect the visual    aspect. Practice rough drawings first, then move on to a final draft. Plan effectively for     how you want it to look before working on the final draft. The text can be a part of the             background or a part of the character’s body, but there should be a minimum of eight           textual parts and their corresponding page numbers. (Out of 40 pts.)

Final Project Two: Consider the ending of Feed and provide an interpretation of what the ending  means: “Everything must go.” With Violet’s fate of being suspended in animation, what    possible connections can you make between Violet’s condition, consumerism, and             corporate influence in America? Take into consideration all of the articles we read in    class, the novel itself, and the connections you have made throughout the entire unit. You      may use examples that we worked on in class as well as any new connections you have     made after having finished reading the novel, however be sure to cite page numbers for scenes that you use, both new and previously discussed. Consider whether or not the    novel seems to accurately reflect where our world is heading and where we might end up   if we continue down this road. How can readers of this novel avoid Violet’s and Titus’ fate? What led to their downfall? Who is to blame for the condition of the world (both     ours and the world of Feed)? (Out of 40 pts.)

Ms. Gilbert:

Digital Story In groups of 3-4, students will use either iMovie or Windows Movie Maker to create a digital retelling of the novel. Students will demonstrate knowledge of main events, main characters, conflicts, and touch upon theme. Students must formulate the dramatic question of the novel and base the digital story around it. This is an opportunity for students to look through different lenses of the novel that we discussed while reading such as technology, consumerism, politics, love, capitalism, etc. Students will be required to write an evolving storyboard and script (there will be many drafts), create or find images, and add music or sound clips. Students can film themselves or can draw or find images. Students will be required to use at least three quotes from the novel.  The digital story must be a minimum of 4 minutes long and maximum of 7 minutes long. After these processes, the final digital story will be created and presented in class.

Digital Story Rubric

Book Cover Students will individually create their own book covers for Feed. Students will be first asked to brainstorm themes, symbols, and characters in the novel that might be appropriate to highlight on a book cover. This will be a full book cover which includes the creation of a front, back, inside flaps, and spine. Students will have to include elements such as: title, author, subtitle, book summary, blurb about the author and at least two quotes. Students will also have the option of adding other elements such as testimonials, awards, and price. This project will give students the opportunity to reflect on all important aspects of the novel that they believe should be highlighted on a book cover, which is typically what draws readers into the book.
